Rumtse Tsomo-riri Trekking - Rupshu valley Trek


Rumtse to Tsomoriri trekking crosses the rolling mountains of the high Rupshu plateau. This region, known as the land of the nomads. The barren region is home to numerous species of wildlife including the wild Ass Kiang, Himalayan Marmot, Tibetan Antelope, and Himalayan Ibex. After several widening and narrowing of the valley there comes a point where it turns it to the north leading to the campsite close to a local nomadic settlement in their traditional life. Finishing at the Nomads village called Korzok which is situated bank of Tsomoriri lake. The lake changes its turquoise blue color with the light and is surrounded by a picturesque landscape.

Day -1
Travel from Delhi to Leh by air. The early morning flight from Delhi gets to Leh in one hours 10 minutes. Asst. on arrival & followed transfer to hotel. Leh is at an altitude of 3500 mts. And all guests are advised to rest for the entire day. A successful trek in Ladakh requires you to acclimatize well.

Day -2 :Leh – Sangam – Hall of Fame – Leh
After Breakfast leave for day excursion to Hall of Fame, Gurudwara Pathar Sahib, Magnetic Hill & Sangam View where Indus & Zanskar river meet. Afternoon back to hotel for hot lunch. In the evening enjoy a sunset at Shanti Stupa. O/N Leh
Day 03: Drive to Rumtse (4095m)
After having the break fast drive to Rumtse. En route visit Thiksey and Hemis monasteries. Overnight stay in tented camp at Rumtse.

Day 04: Rumtse to Kyamar (4383m) 4-5 hrs.
After breakfast start your first day's trek to Kyamar. Walk along the road till Tourist Bungalow and turn to right and walk through the Bungalow. From where a small trail leads towards to valley passing through abandoned army huts. The trail leads you to a river flowing in from the right side, crossing which and then walking towards left take you to a stream flowing from right side, which also has to be crossed. After several widening and narrowing of the valley there comes a point where it turns to the north leading to the campsite close to a local nomadic settlement in their traditional tents.

Day 05: Kyamar to Tisaling (4800m) via Kyumur La (4870m) and Mandalchan La (4996m) 5-6 hrs.
After Breakfast walk from the Campsite an easy but long ascent of Kyumur La begins. Colorful wild flowers on the way are visually pleasant in the exhausting climb to the top, where the trail divides into two, one going to the left leading towards Tsokar lake and one on the right takes you to a stream, crossing which another pass to climb is there .There is no trail to be seen for sometimes but after few minutes a clear trail leads you to the top of Mandalchanla (4996m). The trail goes further up and then steep down to a beautiful valley called Tisaling, which is the campsite for the day.

Day 06: Tisaling to Ponganabu (Tsokar 4398m) via ShibukLa (5016m) 5-6 hrs.
Today you have to cross Shibuk La near the camp site. The top of the pass has a beautiful sight of the Tsokar Lake. Walk down the to the Tsokar Lake through an easy descent to the Lake ,as soon as you finish the gorge walk from the hill as the campsite is just behind the hill.

Day 07: Pangunagu to Nuruchan (4500m) 4-5 hrs.
Today is an easy day, and we follow a dusty jeep road towards Tsokar Lake. Along the salty shores of the lake, we have a rare impeccable opportunity to see some of the endangered migratory birds of the world. From here we carry on along the trail to the right of the lake, keeping to a barren land until Nuruchan, where we will be welcomed by a grassy land with streams nearby. where the campsite is located next to the stream.

Day 8: Nuruchan - Gyama Barma 5100 m (7-8 hrs)
After a good breakfast we gradually ascend towards Horlam Kongka La (4900 m). From the pass an easy descends to Rajungkaru, we will have the opportunity to encounter several Tibetan nomad settlements. We will continue to ascend towards Kyamayuru La (5410 m). From the pass we descend gradually to the valley towards our campsite at Gyamar Barma (5150 m). Night temperature can be freezing due to high altitude campsite.
Day 9: Gyama Barma - Gyamar 5200 m (3-4 hrs)
After breakfast, we head to our next pass, Kartse La (5300 m). We then slowly ascending towards Gyamar la and enjoy beautiful views of snow-capped mountains. The trail descends down towards the valley of Gyamar.

Day 10: Gyamar - Korzok 4500 m (7 hours)
After breakfast we gradually ascend towards the highest pass Yalung Nyaulung La (5450m). From the pass we have beautiful view of Tsomoriri lake. We descend slowly to the Korzok Phu, the summer pasture of the Korzok people and then to Korzok (Tsomoriri lake) Overnight at Tsomoriri lake.

Day 11 : After the breakfast walk around the Lake and drive to Leh via Mahey Bridge and Chumathangs. 

Day 12 : Leh to Delhi
Today transfer to Leh airport for flight to Delhi.
